Cevapcici Sausage Cevapcici a traditional Croatian cuisine sausage


500 gms ground pork
1 kg of lean ground beef 250 gms ground lamb
1 egg white
4 cloves garlic minced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon hot smoked paprika
Add all ingredients to a bowl.



Preheat a grill for medium-low heat.
In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, ground beef, ground lamb and egg white. Add the garlic, salt, baking soda, black pepper, cayenne pepper and paprika. Mix well using your hands, and form into finger length sausages about 3/4 inch.
Grill or fry for about 30 or until cooked.

Serve with some fried cabbage and natural Greek yoghurt mixed with cucumber and salad, open plate dish or for the best hamburger top a burger bun of your choice (I like pita bread).

Before consuming hibiscus be aware and consult your doctor as it can effect medications also if your pregnant or breast feeding or have a low blood pressure. Hibiscus can interact with some medications. It has anticancer effects when taken with other anticancer agents and an additive effect when taken with antiviral agents. It decreases antimalarial efficacy of drugs such as chloroquine and quinine and alters some inflammatory agents processed by your body such as acetaminophen. If you are taking anti-inflammatory drugs, wait for at least two hours to consume hibiscus tea to avoid adverse side effects.

Did you know that nuts have a natural component that repels predators so that they can grow to full maturity. From almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, brazil nuts and everything in between. Its called phytic acid. When something that contains phytic acid is eaten, the acid binds to minerals like zinc, iron, magnesium, calcium, chromium, and manganese in the gastrointestinal tract, which inhibits our digestive systems’ ability to break the nut down properly. (That’s why when you eat nuts you often see undigested bits in your stool the very next day…)

The other issue with nuts is MOLD…nuts gather MOLD rapidly, and you can not see it until it is wet, so washing the mold off is the key to eating a healthy nut.

Its clear in this pic that these nuts have mold, but when you purchase your nuts you will not see the mold to this extent, but under a microscope it is there, it’s just not visible to the naked eye yet! (when you wash it you will see it in the water)


This is where the nut is so sadly misunderstood or gets the blame for nut allergies, in a lot of cases it is NOT the NUT but rather the MOLD that is causing the allergy! (NOTE: it pays to do your research here, if you have been diagnosed as having a ‘nut allergy’ then please use this information wisely and seek medical testing or advice under supervision if you feel you want to test this out)


8-Facts-You-Need-to-Know-About-Activated-Nuts-photo6Nuts are an important nutrient in our ‘daily diets’ we eat them for breakfast, snacks, for cooking and baking, in smoothies, to make butter, milk and cheese, so lets get it right and prepare our nuts first so we can get the best results without the nasty ‘hanger on ers’ who are stealing and diminishing the healthy components of our nuts





Purchasing your nuts and always try and buy ORGANIC 

Buying nuts from a ‘health shop bin’ also applies to the bagged purchase. Always  buy unsalted (and salt them yourself after the washing process, that’s if you have to! but you will be so surprised at how  natural they taste, that I doubt you will! Salting of course is himalayan salt  or  sea salt  

Here is what to do…..

1. Add all the nuts to a jar (with a lid)
2. Cover the nuts with water (preferably alkaline) to least 3 inches above
3. Add a pinch of himalayan salt
4. Screw on lid and shake vigorously
5. Drain and rinse (drain the water into a glass jar so you can see the colour of what comes off the nuts, this is your test to see exactly what I am talking about)
6. Repeat step 5 leaving the water and soaking for 3 hours or you can rinse again.
7. If you have a dehydrator, put the nuts on for 4 hours to allow to dry
8. Using the oven is great, for a nice fresh nut with a roasted flavour, just spread nuts on a baking tray and place in a 200f oven for 20 minutes.

Your nuts are now ready to eat as a snack or placed in a glass jar for baking and cooking. And they taste so much better… wait and see… you will never NOT wash your nuts again!

Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties

Garlic extracts have been found to have antibacterial and antifungal properties. Thiosulfinates, particularly allicin, a potent antimicrobial, can fight off bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Studies in Britain have shown that those who ingest raw garlic for 12 weeks during cold season were far less likely to get sick than those who took placebos. Of the garlic takers who did catch a cold recovery was four days sooner on average than the others. Just one clove of garlic a day gives you the needed vitamins of A, B, and C, as well as minerals including selenium, iodine, potassium, iron, calcium, zinc and magnesium. Two cloves, or more, a day may protect you from the flu or help you recover faster if you get the flu or the common cold.

A Natural Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Bacterial

Besides vitamin C and quercitin, onions contain the anti-inflammatory component isothiocyanates that inhibits lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase, the enzymes that cause inflamatory conditions such as pain and swelling of osteo and rheumatoid arthiritis, asthma, and the respitorycongestion associated with the common cold.

Quercitin and other flavonoids found in onions work along with vitamin C to help kill harmful bacteria.

Studies conducted at the University of California irvine Medical Center suggest that garlic is a powerful antibiotic. Garlic juice demonstrates significant antibacterial activity against a spectrum of pathogens including antibiotic-resistant strains such as methicillin-resistant and ciprofloxacin-resistant staphylococci, vancomycin-resistant enterococci, and ciprofloxacin-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. A second study found that garlic also inhibits methiicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MSRA). MSRA is the antibiotic-resistant bacteria found in hospitals.

Adding to your diet daily will build immunity for the cold and flu season. For optimal health and prevention of disease include onions and garlic in your daily diet, in their raw state.

Adding raw chopped onion to avocado and tomato sandwiches is ideal way to add onion to your diet. Add onions to your salads, sandwiches, stews, etc. Even cooked they will provide some benefit. Garlic juice can be added to salad dressings or add sliced-up garlic into salad mix. If you eat garlic by itself also eat some parsley, as the chlorophyll will take away any bad breath. Garlic cloves added to meat dishes enhance savoury flavours. Use you imagination, experiment. Garlic and onions are natural remedies as well as natural seasonings. Enjoy.

The mild-tasting Western White and Vidalia onions had the lowest antioxidant content and lowest anti-proliferative activity. The onions with the strongest astringency have the superior health promoting properties.




Other use’s – using onion as a poultice to draw out impurities

My personal testimony: Knee with psoriasis cured successfully with one chopped half of an onion, wrapped around knee and left overnight. Cured psoriasis of the knee (which was a 2 year incurable skin problem) with one application.

Flavouring our foods with salt is what we all have done since time began and when this product was manufactured!  I agree salt makes food taste better!….so I thought…. until I learnt how to make my own seasonal flavouring using garlic & onion which reduced the amount of salt I use. But having said that I like everyone else still need to use salt so WHICH SALT IS THE QUESTION? Well ITS NOT THE COMMERCIAL TABLE SALT!!

This is what real salt looks like—we all know what regular white salt looks like—and we mistakenly think it is real salt when it is not. The fact is that refined white salt, such as commercial table salt is bad, very bad stuff. Unrefined natural salt on the other hand is good, very good stuff providing many health benefits.

Unrefined sea salt is healthy. The blood-pressure-raising effect of table salt can be due to its high content of sodium with not enough magnesium to balance it. This has a magnesium-lowering effect that can constrict the arteries and raise blood pressure. Real salt (of various kinds) contains plenty of magnesium and other important minerals, which is why it usually does not affect blood pressure in a negative way.

Sodium is an essential nutrient required by the body for maintaining levels of fluids and for providing channels for nerve signalling. Some sodium is needed in your body to regulate fluids and blood pressure, and to keep muscles and nerves running smoothly.

Without appropriate amounts of sodium, your body may have a difficult time cooling down after intense exercise or activity. When the body is hot, you sweat. If you do not have enough sodium, your body may not sweat as much and you may then become overheated. This could result in a stroke or exhaustion as well as dehydration.

Sodium is an energy carrier. It is also responsible for sending messages from the brain to muscles through the nervous system so that muscles move on command. When you want to move your arm or contract any muscle in your body, your brain sends a message to a sodium molecule that passes it to a potassium molecule and then back to a sodium molecule etc., etc., until it gets to its final destination and the muscle contracts. This is known as the Therefore, without sodium, you would never be able to move any part of your body.
